Tax Cuts

It may sound overly obvious, but tax cuts do not make for lower taxes. Restricted spending, a balanced budget, and perhaps a cookin' economy make for lower taxes.

Whatever you may think, Bush does not want to lower your taxes, but that of his wealthiest friends, at your expense.

Poker

For the life of me, I can't figure out why I've been doing so poorly in my weekly table game. Its probably the booze, or perhaps the overly social atmosphere, which have put me down the last 4 or 5 sessions. The thing is, when I can spare the attention, I can really kick butt online. For the last 8 sessions or so I've been up 75% - 100% of my buy-in, and most recently I decided to jump stakes and I tripled up!

Usually I just take my winnings and dump them straight into a single-table super-satellite for the WPT event in Aruba. This is a 10 person no-limit tournament. I haven't been doing too well; I think the highest I've been was 3rd place. Since only 1st pays (with an entry fee into the next satellite) I might as well be last. In fact, maybe I should take a lesson and play a lot more agressively in the beginning so I can accumulate a stack and not limit myself to a single all-in move. We'll see how it goes.

Black Mold of Doom

Oh well. It was exciting while it lasted. The home inspection that that we had a week ago turned up some really scary looking black mold in the attic. Of course, he couldn't actually say if it was mold or not; and it would cost $500 more to find out for sure. Regardless, we're not about to pay all that extra money just to find out that we don't want to buy the place. So we've rescinded the offer. Such a cute place too! I guess its back to the house-hunting grind.

Home Buying

Well, I certainly can't let Laura write more than me in the weblog that I made for her!

Recently, we've been on the long windy road that is purchasing a new home. A condo actually. And to make matters more confusing and stressful, its for sale by owner. They are really nice people though, and seem to know what they're doing.

The place is really nice; The only thing it really needs is a little touchup paint around the trim. I'm going to the home inspection tonight, so perhaps I'll post some pictures of it later.

After this, the next stressful step is signing the purchase & sale agreement, and applying for the mortgage. I can't believe how long I'll be paying this thing off, but I think that its got some real value to it so I'm not too worried.
